Interpretation

Commentary

The interpretation of this inscription is highly conjectural. The element brḥ is attested numerous times in the corpus and would seem to be a verb. Likewise ġys² has occured previously in MLF 1, but its meaning is completely obscure. It is tempting to connet nhy with the North Arabian god Nuhay, but it could equally be a personal name here. If the parsing is correct, then it would indicate that the term ym is functioning as a temporal adverb meaning 'when', compare with Sabaic ywm and Arabic yawma.
