klʾ: While the verb klʾ 'to detain, withhold' has been previously attested in Safaitic, context does not permit such an interpretation here. Rather, we should compare it the Classical Arabic noun, kalaʾun 'pasture', which must signify an place of pasturage within the larger area of fnt.
fnt: This toponym is usually written fnyt. The spelling fnt now occurs twice at the present site, see BES25_MG1 14, indicating that it is not simply a writing error but rather reflects a phonetic variant. From this, it is perhaps possible to vocalize the word as /panayat/ and then posit the collapse of the triphthong to /panāt/, paralleling mnwt /manawat/ to mnt /manāt/.
