Interpretation
- Apparatus Criticus
- HaNSB 216: ṣl for ṣb, and translation of ḫrṣ h- ḫs¹f "and he was on the look out for the torrential rains" (wa rāqaba 'l-maṭar al-ġazīrah).
- Commentary
- Safaitic ḫs¹f could be connected to Arabic ḫasf in the sense of a "source of water" or (also ḫisf and ḫasīf) "clouds that have arisen in the west bearing much water" (Lane 738c). Less likely is a connection with Arabic ḫusūf "lunar eclipse." The second letter of the fourth name is more like a b than a l.
