Interpretation

Commentary

This stone was found near Qaṣr al-Mushattā, southeast of Amman. A local resident came forward with this stone, which he had discovered near the eastern wall of the palace. It was rumoured that one of the workers on the Mushattā project had brought the stone from elsewhere and had tried to sell it but when he was not offered sufficient money had simply left it where it was found in Qaṣr al-Mushattā. Thus, its original provenance remains uncertain.
