The ed. pr. translates ṯyt as qabr “grave”.
- Commentary
-
The usual assimilation of the two h's in the expression *w l- h h-rgm > w l- h -rgm, occurs here.
The excavation of a structure described as a ṯyt in the numerous inscriptions which lined its inner walls, showed that there was no body and Ahmad Al-Jallad (forthcoming) has suggested it was a cenotaph, i.e. a memorial for a dead person whose body was not available for burial.
