Interpretation

Commentary
The inscription is difficult to read in the photographs, so the reading here is presented very tentatively. The inscription seems to be enclosed by a cartouche, until perhaps the name of the deity Lt. The inscription is covered by damage to the stone, perhaps intentional hammering. Following the l of the author's name, there is a large letter, that looks like a f. The letter is followed by a clear h. Whilst we might expect the name of a deity, instead we find a number of letters that are difficult to read, but are almost certainly not the name of a known deity. The reading here seems the first letter as a s¹. Next to the s¹, there is a short line that resembles a n. Nevertheless, this line seems to be connected by a straight horizontal line to a horizontal-facing two-pronged shape. I very tentatively suggest that this is a ʾ on its side. This reading, however, produces a slightly awkward reading, where the prayer seems to start after the petition seemingly referred to. The next letter is clearly a f. Following the f, one can see a short line, but almost the whole letter is covered by damage and a hole in the stone. The reading here sees this as the vocative article h, but a number of letters are possible. There then seems to be a vertical line, read as l, and a cross shape that seems to form part of the cartouche, read as t. Whilst this gives the name Lt, there does not seem to be a prayer following the deity's name. Josef Bloomfield
