Interpretation

Apparatus Criticus

zkrym: The name ḏkrm and ḏkr are common in Ancient South and North Arabian, respectively. The exact form here is unattested but my reflect a hypocoristic name terminating in -y, followed by mimation. A more adventurous interpretation would take the name as a theophoric compound with yam as the divine element.

nhy gnm: The interpretation of this sequence is uncertain. Nhy is a popular god in North Arabia and therefore we may have before us an expression of devotion towards this deity. The term gnm may then be the name of a place, specifying the location of the deity's shrine, for example. However, in almost all interpretable cases, lbb is followed by a person name. So it is easier to interpret nhy gnm as a geneology omitting the word 'son', which is previously attested in Dhofari and is common in Himaitic.
