Interpretation

Commentary
An individual seems to have vandalised the inscription by drawing lines around the letters to form different letter shapes. The names mlk and ʿbd can be read clearly depsite the vandalism. The author's name is harder to make sense of. When compared with genealogies in C 2943 and Is.H 600.1, a reading of ḥddn seems possible. A vertical line has been carved downwards from the centre of the ḥ, making it look like a ḏ. Both d's have been turned into q's by completing a full circle across the middle of the letter, rather than the original semi-circle. The final letter has been turned into a y by adding a circle at the top of the n. The fact the shape that looks like a y is much smaller than the other letters, supports the reading that it was originally a n.
