- ĠLL – This root is so far unattested in the Safaitic corpus except as a personal name; however, it is attested as a noun in CAr with the meaning “Feeble flow of water from the bottom of a valley; water-course, amid trees” (Lane 2278c). The meaning “standing water,” or “water that does not flow,” fits the context of this inscription. It is difficult, if not impossible, to determine whether this was a normal part of the seasonal migration (possibly inferable from use of nwy), or whether the seasonal rains were late, and possibly even a state of drought.
